🥇 1. NSW 190 Invitations Imminent!
New South Wales has officially confirmed that the first round of Subclass 190 invitations will be issued between October 20 and 27. This marks the long-awaited reopening of NSW’s skilled nomination program!
Key details:
- The NSW skilled occupation list and policy have both been updated (check the official website for details).
- If you have a job offer in NSW related to your nominated occupation (same ANZSCO 4-digit code), you may apply directly for 190 or 491 — no 6-month waiting period required.Priority sectors include:
(Construction)
(Net Zero & Energy Transition)
(Care & Support Economy)
(Digital & Cyber)
(Agrifood)
(Advanced Manufacturing)
Current allocation: NSW has received 200 places for 190 and 180 for 491, pending final confirmation from the Federal Government. ⚠️ Note: 491 is not yet open — do not submit duplicate EOIs. Applicants who have already submitted an EOI do not need to resubmit, but should ensure all points and claim details are accurate. Contact us if you’d like a professional EOI review.
🤝 2. Four States Unite to Lobby for More Allocations
This week, the WA Premier publicly voiced opposition to the Federal Government’s decision to cut 5,000 nomination places for this program year, and has written to the Prime Minister requesting restoration to previous levels.
Currently, the total state nomination quota across Australia sits at 20,350, down from 26,260 last year — a reduction of 5,910 places.⚖️ What this means: If the Federal Government doesn’t revise the quota, popular states such as Victoria and WA may soon face severe shortages. Our advice: Prepare your documents early and keep your EOI valid and updated. Once the states receive additional allocations, early and accurate EOIs will be the first to receive invitations.
🗂️ 3. Tasmania — Re-submit ROI Recommended
Tasmania’s Migration Department recently held its first official briefing session of the financial year and clarified the following directions 👇
Key takeaways:
- This year’s quota will be slightly lower than last year, but less severely reduced than WA’s 30% cut.
- Until the full allocation is released, TAS will issue only a limited number of pre-invitations, not full nominations.
- Applicants who submitted an ROI last year are strongly encouraged to re-submit, as the chance of receiving an invitation under the old system is very low.
- Invitations will be ranked by points.
- Green category applicants are expected to all receive invitations, while Orange and Orange Plus categories will depend on submission timing and remaining quota.
In short: Early submission and higher scores are key this year. If your ROI was lodged last year — you should re-submit now to remain competitive.
🧭 Summary & Recommendations
NSW: Watch closely between Oct 20–27 for the first round of 190 invitations; verify your EOI details.
TAS: Re-lodge your ROI as soon as possible to stay eligible.
Other States: Stay alert for Federal quota adjustments — once allocations increase, invitations will follow rapidly.
Australia’s skilled migration system is entering a new adjustment phase. High-scoring applicants remain the biggest beneficiaries. Candidates with PhD/Master’s degrees or STEM backgrounds continue to be the priority focus for visas 189, 190, and 491.The message is clear — those who plan early and prepare thoroughly will be first in line when the next wave of invitations arrives.
