This student had already studied in Australia for several years—first Foundation, then a Monash University bachelor degree. But halfway through, the student withdrew, returned to China, and eventually switched to a TAFE program.

From the Department of Home Affairs’ perspective

The study pathway is not continuous
There is no clear academic goal
The change of field lacks reasonable justification
Downgrading from university to TAFE
A textbook “high-risk application”

Especially because:
TAFE-related student visas are already among the easiest categories to be refused.

On top of that, the student also had:

Long period of stay in Australia
Multiple changes in study direction
Academic documents showing only junior high school (on the surface)

Under normal circumstances, this type of application is considered “very high refusal likelihood.”So why did we still succeed? The answer is simple:
Because we identified the reasoning that truly convinces a visa officer. We prepared an 8,000-word GTE, addressing every dimension needed todemonstrate genuine study intent.

We explained:Why the previous study history was incomplete

The student’s current academic goals and program alignment

The reasons for choosing this field + future career plan

Why the course is necessary for the student’s career trajectory in China

Why the student chose Australia but not for migration purposes

In other words, we converted “migration risk” → “logical, credible study planning.”

Final outcome:

Subclass 500 approved smoothly.
Given the downgrade of the China passport risk level and the increasingly strict student visa policies, this grant was incredibly encouraging—those who know, know.In short:
From high risk ➜ high success rate

Why is this worth sharing?

Because many students in Australia assume:

“If I didn’t finish my bachelor degree = I’m done.”

“Changing direction = guaranteed refusal.”

“Switching to TAFE = too risky.”

“Being in Australia too long = shows migration intent.”

“No high school certificate = impossible to explain.”

But in reality, what determines the visa outcome has never been your qualification itself—
It’s whether your study motivation is logically justified.

If you’re experiencing similar issues

Withdrawn from your course
Want to change major
Considering a vocational
